Calligraphy Tutorial | the Capital Letter "B"

We're back today with one of our FAVORITE capital letters of the alphabet..."B"!!

Love, love this fancy letter. It's kinda a tough one to master (but absolutely crucial if your name starts with a B...like Bailey) but when you do, we promise, you'll love it too. As before, simply follow the arrows (from left to right) to make the letterform. Make sure you're also working on getting smooth pressure so that you have those juicy, gorgeous thicks and thins.

We want to know how your practice it going...so leave us a comment below or tag your Instagram calligraphy practice pics #letterschool (and you can also follow us @antiquariadesign for more lettering eye candy).

We'll be back next week with...you guessed it, "C"!!

Peace, Love and Letters,
Emma & Bailey

  1. Hi! I found your link through another blog and I can't wait to devour the blog and learn some calligraphy. Nerdy? Somehow I don't think you girls will think so ;)

  2. Hi Bailey, I am ordering some more Nikko G nibs and want to try an oblique pen. Which one do you recommend? Also, how often should I change my nib? I was using one I bought for Molly Jacques online class but one day it just stopped working. The ink just would not flow through it. I usually rinse of my nib and pen holder when I am done practicing. Is that ok or should I just wipe it off and leave it?

    1. Hi Pamela,
I like many different pens...but the Peerless oblique is always a good choice. Nibs are fickle things. If they are not writing well, then it's time for a change (sounds like yours is). If I'm writing on smooth paper with Sumi ink, they can last for months. If I'm addressing envelopes on Lettra or Kraft Paper it can take hours.
I usually just wipe my nib off with a damp cloth when Ii'm finished...but it sounds like you're doing the right things! Happy lettering:)
