Who’s ready to celebrate?

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue";">How are your holiday preparations going? We spent this weekend wrapping up some last minute<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue";"> <span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue";">to-do’s, in hopes to enjoy a relatively relaxing week ahead. What sorts of things have you been up to this season? Did you do any holiday baking? Soo many recipes, so little time! We’ve been sharing snail mail, baking, decorating, wrapping gifts, working on hobbies, making paper snowflakes (so fun!) and just trying to embrace the spirit of it all along the way.
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">
One of the best things about the holidays is the fact they are centered around nostalgia and traditions. It’s a reminder of years past, and a lively way to embrace the current stage of our lives as well. Making gifts for our children, to cherish in the future. Looking back on things we made as kids. Some gems always emerge when rummaging through the ornament bin, no!? Meeting up with old friends, and growing closer with new ones. It’s about food, sharing, love and thoughtful gestures. Embracing spirituality and the long-standing traditions surrounding it. These are the things that make the holidays so wonderful.

The idea that we take pieces of where we have been, where we come from, and then merge them with where we are now, and where we aim to be - it’s just such a sweet aspect of life. It’s a comforting thing. We absolutely love hearing about others’ traditions! Recently, a friend shared that their family makes dried fruit slices each year and hangs them as ornaments. They look like little stained glass pieces - so pretty! That’s just one example of how sharing traditions can spark ideas and inspire you to integrate new ones into your own celebrations as well.

So..what are your favorite traditions? What thing(s) from your family have you carried on with you through life, into later years? Have you integrated any new traditions? What traditions would you like to start? Write all about it! (We'd love to hear about some of them, too!)

We hope you all have the most wonderful, happy, merry Christmas. Like, ever. I have had a wonderful time dreaming up and sharing prompts with you. This year has been a doozy, but we’ve just about made it through. I hope your journaling practice brought you comfort, throughout the hardest of the times this year - of which there have been no shortage. I appreciate you reading these posts, and sharing along in this journaling journey! I hope your 2021 brings the glow of a bright future as it approaches. Good things await. ❤
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

We are officially less than <i style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue";">two weeks away from Christmas, and <i style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue";">less than three weeks away from saying hello to 2021 (or rather, let's be real - goodbye<i style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue";"> to 2020). We’re flying on through this December. Hopefully all of your holiday planning and prep has been enjoyable and has brought some cheer into your days lately. It’s always lovely to have something joyous to look forward to and put energy into. What are you doing differently this year, celebration wise? It feels like a great year to get creative and start up a new tradition or two!

We are thinking of ways to lean into our crafty roots, using the materials and colors of the season as inspiration (we LOVE cute wrapping paper). We’ve also been having a blast with our Holiday Card exchange this year so far. It’s definitely not too late to join! Check out all the details here!

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">As we wind down towards the end of the year and approach the holidays, it feels like a slowed pace is on the horizon and new perspectives await. After such a crazy year, we’re looking forward to our winter break, taking time to reflect, rest, be with family and having extra time to experiment with all of our favorite indoor hobbies. Simply put, we're assessing how to end 2020 on a positive note, with mindfulness, self-care and intentional choices.

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">What are your priorities over these next few weeks? What are you most looking forward to? What are your plans for winter break, and how would you like to feel as you enter the new year? Take some time to envision yourself in the best place, for you - what does that look like?

No matter what your goals, priorities and to-dos are this week, we hope you find yourself feeling centered, confident, creative and content.

Happy Journaling!

How has your journaling been going lately? This time of the year can be so busy, it can be tricky to find time. One of the awesome things about journaling: your journal holds no grudges about you being away for a bit. You can pick it back up at any time! We hope no matter what your schedule looks like these days, that you’ve been able to enjoy getting creative with your journal practice. What did you discover from last week’s prompt? What did you find were your favorite ways to prepare for the holidays? (Hard to believe how close Christmas is already!)
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Since December is usually a whirlwind of a month, we thought it would be nice to take an inventory of the best moments from the past week (or the current week we’re in - whatever you prefer!) This month is filled with so many different emotions; excitement, stress, joy - you name it. It can be all too easy to get wrapped up in the affairs and to-dos of the season, and let the days fly by without really being able to revel in all the emotions.
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">So this week, take some time to appreciate all those little moments that make up good days, and bright memories. Having a record of them in your journal will be a treat to read in years to come!
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Happy Journaling,
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">xoxo
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">The Antiquaria Team

Sarah Beals Ricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02826323057571072518noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3227266351906431483.post-49562106350883458822020-12-03T14:36:00.002-06:002020-12-03T21:18:51.512-06:002020 Holiday Card Exchange is HERE!

Tis' finally here my letter loving friends, our 8th annual holiday card exchange!!
Refreshed and basking in the afterglow of the Holiday - how about you? Did you have a lovely Thanksgiving? We hope you were able to slow down, eat some great food and enjoy the holiday. What was your favorite dish this year? So hard to choose a favorite! It’s a lot of fun to experiment and find ways to put a custom touch on classic favorites. Looking at you, green bean casserole

This week we greet the first day of December..December 2020. We’ve made it! Phew. One more month until we bid adieu to all 365 days of this wild ride of a year. There are so many things to reflect on, and we’ll touch on those a bit more as we approach the New Year. Definitely a lot to process, and new ways of thinking moving forward.

December is a standout month of the year, for good reason. There’s a feeling of excitement, anticipation, leveling up on the cozy vibes, sending out and receiving snail mail (our favorite - watch out for details on our Holiday Card Exchange, Dec 3rd!) and planning and making gifts for all our favorite people. So much to do - and so many ways to do them! We’re finding the holiday planning, baking and decorating feel especially refreshing to anticipate and dive into this year. It honestly feels like a nice, cheerful thing to focus on. Can you relate?

There are often so many things going on this time of the year, it can feel a little (a lot) overwhelming. We thought this week would be a good chance to have a little fun planning and preparing in our journals!

Do you love to decorate? Jot down some decor ideas, or even try out a mood board with paints and collage, if art journaling is your thing. Can’t wait to bake all. the. things? Write out your favorite recipes and who you’d like to share treats with! DIYing some gifts, or brainstorming other gift ideas? Explore all your plans and keep track of your progress. Lots of ways to get organized and excited!

We hope your start to the new month is wonderful, and sets a comforting tone for the rest of your year.

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Happy Monday, and welcome to the week of Thanksgiving! One of the coziest (and busiest!) weeks of the year. We always look forward to this holiday. All of the traditional foods and sharing them together - what could be better? This year of course, (saying this yet again!) it’s going to be a bit different than we’re accustomed to. Smaller celebrations, staying closer to home, and perhaps even some changes to the menu. That being said, just because it’s different, doesn’t mean it can’t still be special! How are you planning to make Thanksgiving 2020 memorable, despite the circumstances? What dish are you most excited to make? Let us know in the comments!

We’ve been thinking a lot about gratitude, how our perceptions have changed throughout this year and the importance of finding reasons to be grateful, even in (especially in) challenging times. Pondering the array of things we potentially took for granted in simpler times (sorry for anything bad we said about you, 2019!), silver linings of this year in our lives, the importance of social relationships and keeping strong connections; the blessing of our most basic needs being met. All of these things come to mind! Being grateful isn’t blind to hardships or struggles; it’s more like seeing everything through a wide lens, and building a solid foundation of gratitude to weather through the storms.

How has this year changed your perception of the things in your life that you’re grateful for? What are you feeling most thankful for this week? It will be interesting to refer back to our entries from last Thanksgiving, and see how our new reflections compare. Take a few moments this week and enjoy spending time with your journal.

We hope that you have a wonderful, safe week full of rest, good food, gratitude and warm feelings.

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Happy Journaling and Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Monday to you, friends ❤ Which prompt did you end up choosing as your inspiration for the one-year anniversary entry? We really enjoyed the haiku and simple living prompts!

November seems to be flying by at warp speed. Who else is so looking forward to the holidays?? We aren’t exactly sure what they are going to look like this year (per usual), and we won’t get to see as much family as we wish we could..but we’re determined to make the most of them. We’re making cozy at-home holiday plans and feel super excited about having something to look forward to. Can you relate?

We may or may not be jumping on the holiday lights and decorations train super early this year…they just brighten things up and bring a little touch of much needed joy! Definitely something we could all use more of these days. It’s just lending a new appreciation for those simple parts of life that bring a smile and a warm vibe.

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; text-align: left;">What things always bring you comfort in the down and good times? Maybe it’s friends and family. It’s hard because that’s true for so many, but also, many of us are separated from each other this year. It’s tough, but we hope you have found (and continue to find) ways to grow and feel a sense of comfort, even as we face the unknowns of this upcoming winter season.

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px; text-align: left;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; text-align: left;">How was your Halloween?! Did you find some creative ways to celebrate this year? So fun to see how people adapted and embraced the new circumstances. Candy scavenger hunts, fancy small spooky dinners and DIY candy delivery shoot systems. That’s a ‘new normal’ Halloween for you!

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px; text-align: left;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; text-align: left;">It’s always nice to have some lighthearted things to look forward to, especially these days. This week is a strange one, because as we all know, the election is tomorrow. It seems as if things have been building up to this for so long - the anticipation and uncertainty of it all is a little (ok...more than a little) overwhelming. Are you feeling that too? It’s a strange time; like a bizarre grand finale to this bizarre year. With all this can come some busy thoughts! Perfect time for some journaling therapy.

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px; text-align: left;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; text-align: left;">This week we encourage you to use your journal as an outlet to filter through some of those vibes of..whatever this is. Sometimes it just helps to just vent and connect words to abstract thoughts and worries, as if somehow writing them on a page takes away a bit of their power. It also helps give some perspective.

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px; text-align: left;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; text-align: left;">If you’ve already voted, heck yes! We love seeing so much engagement in the process this year - it’s so amazing and important, in every election! If you haven’t voted yet, coordinate with some friends and make a plan to - there's still time!

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px; text-align: left;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; text-align: left;">We aren’t sure what the future holds, but we have hope it can be brighter, with more peace and progress for us all.

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px; text-align: left;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; text-align: left;">All the best, friends❤

We just received our annual late October snow here in Colorado and had a cozy weekend indoors. These few weeks of the year always seem to be the true marker of a shift into the cold weather/holiday season. Do you feel that way too?
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">The origins of Halloween vary depending on your sources, but for some it was a marker of the end of harvest season and a commemoration of the journey of life (and death). These days, it’s an excuse to be creative, resourceful, have fun with decorations, imbibe in sweets, maybe have some drinks and visit with friends. This year, of course, it will be a bit different (looking at you, covid.) Do you celebrate Halloween? If so, how do you usually celebrate? We thought it would be fun to just have a general Halloween (or general Fall, if Halloween isn’t your thing!) themed journal spread!
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">There are still plenty of ways to be festive and safe this year. Pumpkin carving, making themed baked goods, watching classic movies, embroidering spooky cute designs, an outdoor candy hunt (like easter eggs!), socially-distanced outdoor festivities, or simply staying in, being cozy and journaling about party and costume ideas for, hopefully, next year.
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">

Speaking of hope…To our US friends - if you haven’t had the opportunity to vote yet, now is the time!! Let’s get out there at some point this week (take some friends along!), vote early and use our voices to make the difference for a better future.

Happy Halloween, and Happy Journaling!

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">xoxo
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">The Antiquaria Team
Sarah Beals Ricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02826323057571072518noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3227266351906431483.post-76578951494366191402020-10-19T08:00:00.001-05:002020-10-19T08:00:04.378-05:00Antiquaria Journal Club | Week Forty-Nine

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue";">
Hey Journal Gang,

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Welcome to the third Monday in October! The weather is fully turning here, and it’s a lovely feeling. Were you able to reflect on some positive thoughts with last week’s prompt? Hopefully it lended some moments of gratitude by thinking back on times when people were there for you. And hopefully you found an opportunity to pay it forward in a small way!

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">This month of the year is usually a busy one for us, and moreso this year as we figure out new ways of adapting to the world. Holiday snail mail season is gearing up, so we know the holidays are just over the horizon - starting with Halloween in just under two weeks! Always a fun holiday. School is in swing, lots of projects and new endeavors in the works, for the business, and in our own creative practices and homes as well.
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">How about your October? What things are filling your days as of late? Which are working for you, and which aren’t? Sometimes it helps to take a little mental inventory of what we’ve been up to and how we can adjust things in order to optimize our feelings of thriving. Sometimes we’re just hanging on in surviving mode (um, like most of this year!), and that’s ok too. It could be a sign of a need to rest and reevaluate. That's just a part of life sometimes! We're feeling hopeful and excited about the things we're working on, so that's a good sign.

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">What is bringing you joy or making you excited lately? Do you have something you’ve been working on that you’d like to continue to pursue? An idea you have, but haven’t executed it yet? What activities are you most feeling these days, and why? Are things going well in your studies, at home, or at work? What things aren’t? Take a few moments to jot these things down and take note. If working in your journal is on your list of feel-good things..you’ll be ahead of the game! :)

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Happy Journaling,❤

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">xoxo

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">May this Monday greet you with feelings of hope for the week ahead. How have you been feeling about your journaling practice lately? Hopefully it’s consistently been a useful tool to help you channel some creative energy and process emotions, no matter your journaling style.

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Did you catch the Fred Rogers, (also known as national treasure Mr. Rogers!) quote above? The concept of helping others, and being helped by others, is in my thoughts this week. No (wo)man is an island. We’ve all received help in various forms from those in our lives along the way to find ourselves at the point we are now. Our families, our friends, significant others, teachers, classmates, co-workers, doctors, workers of all kinds, non profit organizations members, and even occassionally, through random acts of kindness, total strangers in happenstance circumstances.

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Help exists in many forms and in a wide range of impacts. From foundational sacrifices our parents (and those that came before them) made to help us thrive, to the seemingly insignificant, like a friendly permissive wave in passing traffic from someone we will never meet. Emotional, spiritual, physical, financial, intellectual, and ways in between. None of us exist in a vacuum, but together in a society and as fellow humans!

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">This concept is on the radar as the general feelings of divisiveness and tensions within our political discourse and throughout our cultural awareness are elevated. Mid-October feels like a liminal space; on the threshold of an unknown. Even so, the fact remains we are all SO much more alike than we are different. Embracing the mindset of service, helping when able and allowing oneself to humbly be helped, can allow for so much positive impact, improved relationships and overall feelings of unity.

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">So, this week seemed like a good chance to think back to those in our lives who've helped us in any capacity, large or small, along the way. Goal for the week: Seek gratitude and opportunities to carry out acts of random kindness. Join us? :)

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Happy Journaling!

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">xoxo

How was your journaling last week? Recently we’ve been gathering some new journaling supplies and experimenting with those. It’s always exciting to incorporate some fresh colors and techniques into the journaling practice. Shaking up materials can bring some fresh inspiration, don't you think? What’s your favorite journaling tool or accessory these days? Drop us a comment below to let us know!
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Speaking of trying new things, we can’t wait for all the Fall themed festivities and plans on the horizon. The cooler days and anticipation of those things is energizing, and we’re feeling it. With so much time spent indoors this year, feeling cooped up, so it’s wonderful to have more excuses to get out of the house! What ways do you connect with nature and self in this season? Weekend drive to go see the leaves? A crisp hike? Visiting a local pumpkin patch? Making big batches of soup? Prepping the garden for winter? Finishing craft projects, or starting new ones? Sitting on the porch with a hot drink? <p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">New week, new prompt! How has your journaling been going lately? Have you felt inspired, or has it been tough to find the time? It’s totally normal to have ebbs and flows with a practice or hobby - we go through that as well. We always find our way back to journaling and channeling through other various creative outlets at some point. It’s especially rewarding when you revisit something and remember what you love so about that activity, don’t you think?

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Speaking of revisiting..this weekend we felt the first full fall mode shift here on the front range. The first glimpse of the upcoming cozy months, and it has been so nice already. The weather was a little bit chilly and overcast, with dappled sunlight. Light a candle, clean a bit, work on a project and just enjoy. Those days are glorious.

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">We wanted to revisit one of our previous favorite prompts this week, in honor of the shifting temps and season. How has the weather been where you are? Have you seen leaves changing yet? Have you brought out the fall home scents and candles yet? What do you love about the cooler weather? We like to use the colors and feelings of the season as inspiration..and then journal all about it!

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">If you need some ideas, Bailey has a fun example of a weather journal spread she did earlier this year. You can find video examples on our instagram page highlights! She incorporated watercolors, stamps and pencils to create a custom art journal log of the weekly weather and skies. So fun!

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">We hope you enjoy exploring the prompt! Here’s to a great week ahead❤

Happy Journaling and Happy Autumn,
Once the moon sets and the sun rises, it will officially be Autumn, and the approach has made itself apparent on these cooling nights. The transition of the air is so refreshing and we feel the internal/external shift happening. The days are still beautiful and warm, perfect for venturing back outside after hiding away from the heat and haze. In short, being outdoors in this season brings a lot of joy.
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Working in the yard this weekend, I noticed a few of the cherry tree’s leaves have started shifting into dappled fiery tones; a sure sign that sweater weather is on its way. As I worked to plant a new rose bush, I admired the tree and noticed an increase in fallen leaves on the ground; dotting the mulch with their unique crispy curled forms. Earth doesn’t resist the natural changes of the seasons, but embraces them with beauty and grace, transforming and evolving in new form. Forever striving to be more like this.
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Getting outdoors is like an escape from expectations, deadlines, screens, the news and stress. It’s active meditation. It’s an attempt to emulate the cherry tree, by letting things gracefully fall away for awhile. What activity is your escape in this way? We hope you are finding time for it these days.❤
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">As we move further into this year, some changes have settled in and we’re adapting, well enough. Other changes, the ‘what ifs’ that haven’t quite happened yet, are the most difficult to deal with still. This year is causing a lot of uncertainty and anxiety, especially as we fly towards the election. Can you relate? Not knowing what will happen, and how it will affect things..it’s so easy to cling to fearful thoughts and worry.
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Knowing what to hang onto and what to let go of and action steps you can take can be such a helpful skill, not only for bettering your mental/physical/spiritual health, but for living a life you want to live and contributing to a world you want to be a part of.
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">We recently did a prompt on letting go/embracing change and felt this was a good time to revisit that theme. Can you relate to hanging onto worry or stress? Struggle with the lack of control of it all? (because same). This is the perfect time to do a self check-in your journal and focus on how you can reprioritize, revitalize and take action.

Wishing you all a wonderful first week of Fall!
We hope last week you found some time in your schedule to slow down and indulge in a bit of journaling therapy, if only for a bit. Sometimes it can be intimidating to find time in the day to take some moments for ourselves to slow down and recenter. We find it helps to journal in spurts and try not to overthink the process (easier said than done sometimes; progress, not perfection!). Even if you’re only able to work for 5 or 10 minutes at a time..that’s time well spent!
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Speaking of time..how have the past two weeks gone by so quickly? Maybe it’s just us, but we seem to be flying through September. Our routines and habits are slowly shifting into an Autumn mindset. Work focus and hobbies are making that ever-so-gradual shift into the cozier realm. The days are notably shorter now and the nights, cooler. Gardens are winding down, save for some colder weather crops. Lots of work on the kitchen, and forward thinking to next year's season already. Love to make plans and see things slowly, but surely, coming together. We’re working on new holiday designs and definitely feel the shift in season approaching.
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">It has us reviewing the year so far and what lies ahead in the Fall. Who else is ready for sweater weather? How do you stay busy in this popular season? What are your favorite indoor cozy hobbies? Do you have something you’re planning or excited to do? How will being at home more this year change your Fall routine? Are you hoping to give a new hobby a try? We say go for it! Spend some time this week mentally gearing up (or down) for the slower pace and the crisp weather. Make a list of everything you’re hoping to participate in. It’s the perfect time to refine a craft or learn a new skill.
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Almost (hopefully) time to start digging out the sweaters and socks. Happy Labor Day! Hopefully you’ve been able to embrace some time over this holiday weekend to unwind. What are your favorite ways to decompress, find your equilibrium and ease your mind of stress lately? It’s so important to strive to find that delicate balance within your headspace - and your schedule. Often easier said than done! We feel a work/life balance is super important; we always try to keep the big picture in mind.

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">It seems this year the scales have been thrown all out of whack, across the board. No matter your circumstances, if you live on planet earth, you’ve probably experienced disruptions of some sort on the work/life/mind spectrums in 2020. Our normal strategies and routines have had to adapt and shift. Anyone else felt a learning curve there?

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">The path to success is not a straight line. Some days will be hectic, you’ll be tired, running late with too much to do and not enough time to do it. Other days you’ll have nothing to worry about (and nothing on the to-do list!) except puttering around the house. That’s the best, no? As long as your average balance-ratio is feeling good and true to yourself, that’s what’s important. :)

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">What have been your go-to techniques for releasing worry and allowing yourself to take a breather? What has your work life been like this year, is it different? How so? How do you strive for balance in your life? What does that look like for you?

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Take some time this week to recharge and pat yourself on the back for doing your best and truckin’ through this tough year.

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Happy Journaling!

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">xoxo

Welcome to September - almost! One more day until we’re in the last month of Summer. How did your journaling go last week? Were you able to lean into some of your favorite simple living vibes? We sure hope so, because it seems that a large component of a good life is merely a collection of those lovely low key moments.

Over the past few days we’ve had a shift in the winds here, so to speak; a break in the heat and drought. Last night, the skies were clear for what seemed like the first time in weeks. Somehow the stars shone brighter then before, twinkling and shimmering their greetings. The moon glow enveloped the garden like a satin silver shroud. Beautiful nights. There is now that ever-so-slight hint of fall in the air that creeps out at dusk and vanishes with the morning dew. Subtle, fleeting - but most definitely there! It’s a welcome sensation.

Something about the cusp of a season change can evoke a lot of memories or a sense of nostalgia. Perhaps it’s a quiet acceptance of letting go of the season's passing and a sense of readiness or excitement for the shift ahead. There’s a bit of a mental transition between Summer and Fall. The world slows a bit, or perhaps becomes a bit more introverted in nature. Attentions, routines, hobbies and goals shift. There are still plenty of warm days ahead..but that little mental shift is there for sure. Do you notice that in yourself around this time of year as well?

It has us reflecting on this Summer and how so. much. has happened. But also…nothing much? Depending on what perspective you're looking at it from, that is. A strange thing. There are plenty of stressful things to mentally catalog, but we wondered…what were the personal highlights of the summer? To be honest, the list is shorter - or at least different - than it would normally be. But that’s ok. We’ve all done our best under the circumstances and there were definitely some good moments to be had, especially along the lines of the ‘simple living’ mentality.

So, what were your highlights for the Summer? What were the hardest moments? How did you grow, what did you learn? What do you look forward to next Summer? Take a few moments in your journal this week and reflect on what all the sunny days meant to you this year.

Remember: So far you’ve survived 100% of your worst days. You’re doing great.

Keep on the Sunny Side and Happy Journaling,
xoxo

How did your journaling go last week? Did you struggle or feel a particularly nice burst of inspiration? Hopefully the latter, but if the former..never fear! For today is Monday, and that’s a fresh new chance to start a brand new week. We are feeling determined to make it a particularly good one, despite wading through these rough dog days of late Summer. “Dog days..why the heck are they called that, anyway?”, I wondered.

There are many common colloquial phrases we all know, but the origins themselves are often more obscure. Here’s a little fun fact to start off your week:

The dog days of summer are the hot, languishing days of summer. Historically, they followed the rising star system, Sirius. Sirius, also known as the dog star, is the brightest star visible from earth and is a part of the constellation Canis Major.

During this period of the Summer, the Ancient Greeks took notice of Sirius rising and setting with the sun. Forever curious and ponderous, they developed the theory that it was this blazing bright star which was amping up the heat of our own sun in July and August. Hellenistic astrology then associated this star pattern during “dog days” with heat waves, spells of drought, summer storms, lethargy and more lovely things of that nature. These official dates vary, but it’s typically from July 22-August 22.

Pretty interesting stuff. Hopefully, we are on the downswing of the dog days! How have things been in your area? What are you doing beat the dog days blues? Colorado is in a drought right now and we've been dealing with some pretty intense forest fires and hazy smoke over the past week or so. Grateful for all of the firefighters that are bravely battling the blazes, and we are hoping for rain. The ever-so-valuable 2020 outdoor outlet of relaxation (gardening, hiking, walking, etc) has been taken off the agenda for now, so we are mentally reviewing simple pleasures to enjoy to power through this last rough bit of Summer.

Maybe you are feeling in need of a boost too. What are your favorite simple pleasures to partake in? Take a mental inventory, jot them in your journal and try to do some of those things this week!

Excuse us while we go drink some fruit infused ice water, eat some ice cream, tend to our houseplants and read a book in the most comfy chair in the house. :)

Were you able to dive into your toolkit and channel some creativity last week? We had so much fun letting all of our washi and supplies guide our journaling experiences. It’s always so interesting to see what comes together when you let the materials inspire you! There are so many cool and unique tapes, stickers, stamps and writing instruments out there. Endless inspiration. Did you find a theme coming through on your page?

<p style="font-family: "helvetica neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "helvetica neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Themes..if there was a ‘theme’ for your Summer this year, what would it look like? Ours would be different than a typical Summer, but there have still been some bright moments and progress along the way. That said, we can’t help but let our minds wander towards what lies ahead in the traditional comforts of the Fall season. Here in Colorado, there have been wildfires, temps in the 90s, and we desperately in need some rain. This makes the crisp chill of Fall more alluring than ever. There are still unknowns and hesitations about the end of this year..with the pandemic, schools back in session and the election looming. Lots of uncertainty to be found. Still, the days will cool, the Fall harvests and flavors will start appearing as our hemisphere winds down and shifts towards winter. Perhaps we can find moments of comfort and normalcy along the way. We remain hopeful.

<p style="font-family: "helvetica neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "helvetica neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">What are you looking forward to about Fall? What are you concerned about? What are your favorite aspects of the season? Do you have an annual Autumn activity you always look forward to? What is your food of the season?

<p style="font-family: "helvetica neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;">

<p style="font-family: "helvetica neue"; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">When the heat is hot…find some comfort in your sweater weather daydreams.
How did your journaling go last week? Somehow it feels a bit lighter entering a fresh Monday after having taken a mental inventory of thoughts or actions to release. It’s amazing how much emotional energy and mental real estate things can take up at times. We’ve been reassessing, focusing on new projects, releasing negative energy where we can and planning for the future in a positive light. Hopefully the same goes for you!

This week we want to just let loose and revel in the delights of art journaling..time to raid the toolkit!! We are obsessed with cute journaling supplies and are always on the lookout for new stickers, washi and stamps to incorporate into our collections. It’s been awhile since we’ve taken full inventory of our journaling supplies, so we thought it would be a blast to create a full spread with the materials themselves as inspiration!

There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing all the colorful components scattered about on the work table, and enjoying the process as the page comes to life. This week, check out your stash, choose a few items that speak to you and that you enjoy seeing together - then roll with it, and have fun!

Do you have a favorite set of stickers or a new roll of washi you’ve been wanting to try out? Now’s the perfect time!

Happy Journaling!
